Music Class

Music Curriculum Corner - May 2018

During the month of May, our musical play focused each class on different development goals.   The Owls continued their improvisation work from the Spring Musical.  They improvised text for “Old McDonald Had A Farm” as a special treat during their graduation presentation.  They also sang in two parts with a technique called “ostinato.”  This is where one group repeats a phrase or rhythm while the others sing a known song.   The Foxes are playing circle games with the parachute and songs such as “Button You Must Wander.”  Learning to sit and move in a circle is an important skill as they pro

Music Class Curriculum Corner-April 2018

During April, our Fox and Owl music classes practiced for their spring musical.  They not only wrote the script but also painted sets and chose their costumes.  Their creativity inspired me to think outside the box.  Where else could one be in a Magical Woodland and then magically transported to the North Pole for a visit with Santa?  They sang beautifully and performed motions.  I’m sure we’ll see them on the Muny or Broadway stage soon!

February 2018

Happy February!  We had lots of fun in music during the month of January.  The January thaw allowed us to play outside singing games in the sun and warmth while it lasted.  We added new rhythm instruments and puppets. My favorite lessons included introducing the young musicians to the music of the St. Louis Blues hockey team and the unique style of St. Louis blues.   The youngest students were mesmerized by watching a vinyl album spinning on a record player.  The older ones were taught the all-important Power Play dance and “When the Blues go Marching In.”

December 2017

Thank you to all who attended our December 21, “Holiday Happening” program.  The morning allowed students to show off their music learning.  During the month of January, the students will focus on mastering new songs.  These songs will then be the foundation used to teach musical knowledge.  Be prepared to hear old favorites and a few new ones too!
